Donnie often accompanies Eliza on her adventures. However, Eliza would risk her safety for Debbie and even sacrifice her ability to talk to animal to prevent some hunters from hurting her sister.ĭonnie: Eliza loves Donnie and accepts him as her brother. In Operation Valentine after Eliza and Debbie ended an argument about Debbie's cookies and Eliza's Secret Admirer, Nigel comments "It would be far easier to raise crocodiles", referring to how hard it was to raise two girls in the wild. Eliza and Debbie often get into arguments. Nigel doesn't like it when his wife being too harsh on Eliza and he also doesn't like rules if he's with Eliza.ĭebbie: Eliza loves her sister but has a hard time showing it. Nigel generally calls Eliza "poppet" or "poodles". Nigel: Eliza loves her father who was happy and sweet to his favorite daughter. Eliza's and Marianne's day is April Fool's Day on which Eliza is Marianne's partner in pranks. Marianne: Eliza loves her mother and would do anything for her. She also appeared on a few video games, including crossovers. Eliza is also the main protagonist of The Wild Thornberrys Movie, and is a main character in Rugrats Go Wild!. She wears a safari outfit, with long green socks and a red bandana tied around her neck with a watch on her left wrist.Įliza, being the main protagonist of the series, has appeared in every episode of The Wild Thornberrys. In episodes, Eliza wears her scuba gear her wetsuit is yellow much like her everyday outfit a mask on her face, flippers on her feet, a red air tank on her back to carry air to breathe underwater, and a regulator in her mouth.Īs a twenty-two-year-old woman, Eliza keeps her red hair in a ponytail, and switch from her large glasses to smaller and oval shaped ones (much like her mother's). In the cold climates, she wears a thick parka which is purple or blue in color. In episodes in which Eliza wears bathing suits, her outfit consists of a purple bathing suit with brown shorts and purple flip-flops. and when she does her hair is longer than her moms but shorter than her sisters. Upon occasion, Eliza will let her hair down from the pigtails/ponytail. She has orange hair in pigtails, sometimes she wears her hair in a ponytail and braces. LooksĮliza almost always wears a short-sleeved yellow dress with a red collar, buttons, cuffs and pockets, a pair of brown boot-like shoes, and a pair of glasses without which she can't see. It’s the world's second most-watched nature show, right behind her father's. Eliza's reckless behavior stems from her naïve perspective that, since she can talk to animals, she knows them better than actual experts and plenty of times she has been proven wrong she never seems to learn her lesson.Īccording to character design supervisor Patrick Dene, Eliza grows up to host her a wildlife show of her own at age twenty-two. This obsession has often led to mishaps or Eliza foolishly putting herself (and sometimes others) in danger. Because of her gift, Eliza goes to extreme efforts to talk to all kinds of animals and get to know them, even if they're predators. Eliza is the only member of her immediate family to have their appendix removed (Operation Valentine). She gains her love of adventure from her parents (her father mostly), which often leads to problems. Eliza has saved numerous animals from poachers, trappers, and other perilous situations, and never fails to make new friends, no matter what species they may be from. It isn't easy for Eliza to keep such a big thing to herself, but luckily she has her best pal Darwin to confide in. If anyone ever found out she speaks to animals, she would lose her powers. What her family doesn't know is that she was given the ability to talk to every animal she meets by a shaman in Africa. She loves animals and exploring the wild jungles, deserts, and forests that she travels to along with her family all around the world as they film their nature television show: Nigel Thornberry's Animal World and Sir Nigel Thornberry's Animal World post 'Sir Nigel Part 2'. She possesses the power to speak clearly to animals and understand their reactions. Her natural curiosity means she often leaps before she looks often with amusing or disastrous results. Eliza is a 12-year-old girl, who’s always ready for adventure.

Motionfield is certainly an apt moniker, as Friberg's colorful eddies suggest anything but minimalist drone stasis. But Luftrum has many introspective moments peppered throughout the galactic expanse it's third movement in particular utilizes the pitter-patter of little beats to exude an earthbound psychedelia. Friberg effortlessly butts textures and layers against one another, mixing sounds of varying hues that alter both mind and mood. Stylistically, the album harkens back to some of the weightier moments first starmapped by the Euro masters of kosmische but there's a persistent 'symphonic' flavor linking the various movements that encompasses ages both new and old. Luftrum is that rare work, one that spotlights an artist working at a level of craft that far exceeds his years. Those outings, however, seem but prelude to Luftrum, a beautifully sculpted multi-segment creation of ambient art which marks his triumphant return to more permanent media. He hasn't exactly been idle since then, keeping busy releasing download-only albums on a fairly regular basis. The last time we heard from Petter Friberg, better known under his nom de disque Motionfield, was through his sole physical CD release Optical Flow, on the defunct Somnia label, way back in 2008. Carpet picks a flower for Aladdin to give to Jasmine and throws clouds to them. Later, Carpet helps Aladdin win the heart of Jasmine by taking them on a carpet ride during the song "A Whole New World" - from a critical eye, Carpet is actually helping a great deal, since Aladdin does little steering. He also helps Aladdin to impress the Sultan. When Aladdin frees Genie for the first time, Carpet shows that he knows the Genie.Īfter Aladdin wishes to become a prince, he returns to Agrabah - Carpet can be seen lying under him on top of the elephant Abu during the "Prince Ali" song. He manages to free himself in time to save Aladdin and Abu as Jafar throws them back into the cave. Carpet then flies from the massive lava floods trying to help them escape - of course intending to escape with them - but is pinned by a falling boulder. Aladdin nearly falls into the lava, but Carpet catches him in time then flies to Abu for Aladdin to pull him off a rock before it bursted into lava and help him onto him. When Abu grabs the jewel it melts into lava along with the idol, the cave starts to collapse, and fill itself with lava and flames. As Aladdin goes to fetch the lamp, Carpet realizes that Abu is trying to steal the last temptation treasure of the Cave - a gigantic ruby in the hands of a large ape-like idol and tries to pull him away from it, but fails. At first, Abu is angry at Carpet and doesn't want him to come, but Aladdin calms him down and asks Carpet for his help.Ĭarpet leads Aladdin and Abu through many twisting caves, and it is implied that Aladdin might never have found his way to the lamp without Carpet's guidance. Carpet teases Abu, who is scared and forces Aladdin to look. In return, Aladdin has said to trust him with his life (in Aladdin and the King of Thieves).Īppearances Aladdin File:Ĭarpet first meets Aladdin and Abu in the Cave of Wonders while they are looking for the Genie's lamp. In the end, he has been shown to have a strong bond with Aladdin, not only saving Aladdin's life on multiple occasions, but also doing favors for him such as helping Aladdin and Jasmine fall in love, despite his distaste for Aladdin's lies. Also, unlike Genie, he doesn't take losing seriously. On top of his intelligence, he is very compassionate, but occasionally lets his kindness speak over his common sense. He is usually the one that figures out what's going on before anyone else, though he has trouble expressing it to Aladdin and his friends due to his lack of ability to speak or make any sounds. He also seems to be very intelligent, as well as perceptive, more so than most other characters. Over the course of the series, he has shown to possess an almost human level of intelligence, such as being shy, heroic, romantic, and unquestionably loyal. One thing he does not enjoy is how Aladdin would not tell the truth about him truly being a street urchin, which was the only time he showed any annoyance towards Aladdin. He happily joins Aladdin on his magical adventure to win the heart of Jasmine. Aladdin had to coax him out of hiding, and soon, he quickly befriended Aladdin and risks his own life to save him. In the first film, he was a bit shy when he first encountered Aladdin and Abu, but was curious enough to nervously fly over to investigate eventually hiding once Aladdin first saw him or whenever Abu looked over. Randy animated the hands and feet (tassels) in traditional animation, while the rest of the character was computer-animated.ĭespite being a carpet, Carpet is a character of many traits and pure of heart. His complex design was what forced the animators to design his pattern in computer animation. Having resided within the same home, Carpet had been good friends with the Genie (who remained trapped within his lamp in an exclusive chamber), a thousand years prior to meeting Aladdin.Ĭarpet is known for being one of the first computer-animated characters in a feature film. Because he was not part of the original forbidden treasures of the cave, his physical interaction with Abu did not provoke the cave's guardian. Carpet and his siblings went their own separate ways, with Carpet finding his way into the Cave of Wonders and becoming trapped in its treasure room. On the day of his death he commanded his creation to go out into the world and find masters for them to serve. 2.6 Disney Princess Enchanted Tales: Follow Your DreamsĬarpet was created a thousand years ago by the legendary sorcerer and carpet weaver Khuriya who created one-hundred Magic Carpets each with their own unique patterns and colors. Planetary Mysteries by Richard Grossinger has rekindled my interest, to put it mildly. Either “they” would find us, or it would be quite a while before we could extend the search to other stars. But as one planetary probe after another turned up nothing but rocks or swirling, poisonous gases - no life and no evidence of any ancient civilizations, at least in our own solar system - I lost interest. At their best, these slower-paced hero missions can add some great history and texture to the gameworld, but at their worst, they feel like torturously slow-paced filler. There are some genuinely excellent, dramatic, and surprising missions in there, but there are also a handful of staid, ill-suited stealth missions which feel at odds with the game’s core strengths. The focus on story and the length and production of many of the cutscenes feels extremely generous, and while the plot isn’t always captivating, the enthusiasm with which it’s told is. The single-player campaign consists of twenty-one missions – seven for each faction – and a ton of cutscenes between them. The inclusion of buildable fortifications works towards allowing spatial dominance of the battlefield as a viable and interesting tactical approach, but the mechs don’t compliment this in an interesting way. They can crush sandbags underfoot, sure, but they’re also unable to scale even slight elevations. The presence on the battlefield that the audiovisual design works so hard to establish is undermined by the mech’s inability to navigate difficult terrain. Practically, he mechs veer to the simplistic side, effectively acting how large vehicles would in any other RTS do. Artillery from both mechs and gun emplacements leave muddy craters where they land, and larger mechs will walk straight through buildings, levelling them like card houses. In battle, they’ll fall apart as they take damage, and eventually stagger and fall when felled, leaving smoking wrecks on the battlefield. Lumbering chimeras that have stepped out of furnace-heated workshops, sparked into existence at the point where low and high technology meet and scrape up against one another. The mechs are the main event here, the equivalent to tanks in this alt-history, and they’re incredibly impressive visually. Saxony’s mechs are powerful, lumbering things, while Polania favours mid-range skirmishers, and Rusviet powerful melee options. Polanian basic infantry have rifles, Rusviet shotguns, and Saxony SMG’s, each offering different range and damage potential. That’s not to say there’s no differences between these minor choices, and the three factions do have a fair amount to separate them. On the other hand, it diminishes infantry variety between factions, since each of the three playable sides need to have roughly equivalent choices for this to work. This is neat because it occasionally makes soldiers grow beards in an instant, but it also means more opportunities to respond to, rather than just predict, your opponent. If your unit of rifleman mops up a unit of machine-gunners, for example, they can then collect their weapons, transforming them into your faction’s version of that unit. The slightly-arcadey immediacy present in the point capture also exists in the way infantry units can swap roles on the fly. With cover being as useful as it is, identifying and reinforcing chokepoints can be extremely powerful, providing yet more choices over when to focus on defence, and when to press the attack. The highly versatile engineer can place sandbags, pillboxes, barbed wire, and mines, as well as repair the mechs. Instead, most of the strategic elements in holding positions come from fortifications. Both the Barracks and Workshop can be upgraded, but there’s no complex building chains or tech trees. The result is dynamic, involved skirmishes with ever-shifting fronts.īase building itself consists of just three structures: a Headquarters, a Barracks for infantry, and a Workshop for mechs. Deathballing – amassing a huge blob of powerful units to sweep the map – is too slow to be viable. The game rewards regular, well-timed raids over biding your time. It also means that staying put to defend a base and build up forces won’t work here. Each iron and oil refinery held means you can produce a steadier supply of reinforcements. While the core of Iron Harvest is a dynamic and often exciting RTS that pays tribute to Company of Heroes and Dawn of War, mechanical intricacies can often seem like an afterthought alongside the glorious smoke and mirrors of its outer casing.Ī standard skirmish or multiplayer match in Iron Harvest is always going to be a desperate, constant scrap over resources and victory points until one side gets the upper hand, giving them the edge they need to overwhelm their opponent. Just like the mechs that populate its Dieselpunk alt-history battlegrounds, Iron Harvest is a creaky, imperfect contraption, but one that’s clearly been bolted together with love and undeniable charm. Also, like its outlandish and inventive mechs, it’s welded together with an eye for form over function. |
